About the Speakers

Dr Rathi Mahendran

Speaker·NUS Yeo Boon Khim Mind Science Centre & Mind Care Clinic

Dr Rathi Mahendran is a highly respected psychiatrist in Singapore with decades of experience in the field of mental health. She was formerly an Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and is currently Deputy Education Programme Director for the Master of Clinical Mental Health and Psychotherapy at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. She is also a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist at Mind Care Clinic, Farrer Park Medical Centre. Dr Rathi has extensive experience treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including stress, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and has presented her research findings at conferences around the world.

Associate Professor Tan Tin Wee

Speaker·National University of Singapore

Dr Tan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), and is the Della Suantio Lee Professor of Digital Mental Health. He was the Founding Director and Chief Executive of the National Supercomputing Centre. Drawing from his personal experience as a caregiver for his late wife and parents, he also volunteers as a dementia caregiver trainer with the Caregivers Alliance.

Mr Abdul Rashid

Mr Abdul Rashid Ibrahim is an active AWE volunteer and currently leads an ongoing smartphone project for Malay seniors. He also serves as Assistant Secretary at Tampines-Changkat Community Centre, Singapore.

Associate Professor Thang Leng Leng

Speaker·National University of Singapore

Dr Thang Leng Leng is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Japanese Studies, and Co-Director of the Next Age Institute, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS). She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and is a socio-cultural anthropologist whose research focuses on ageing, intergenerational relationships, family and migration in Asia, particularly Japan and Singapore. She publishes widely and specialises in ethnographic and qualitative research methods. She is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Intergenerational Relationships and Vice Chair of the International Consortium for Intergenerational Programmes.

About the Moderator

Emeritus Professor Kua Ee Heok

Emeritus Professor Kua Ee Heok is an Emeritus Consultant at the National University Hospital and Consultant Psychiatrist at Mind Care Clinic, Farrer Park Medical Centre. His clinical and research interests focus on psychological disorders in later life, particularly dementia and depression. In recognition of his significant contributions to geriatric psychiatry, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Singapore Gerontological Society. He has held prominent roles in international psychiatric organisations and journals, including President of the Pacific-Rim College of Psychiatrists and Editor of Asia-Pacific Psychiatry. He has authored over 270 research papersand 23 books on psychiatry, ageing, dementia, depression and stress. He also served as Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director of the Institute of Mental Health, Singapore (1999–2002).
