What do we do?

Dementia Singapore’s Caregiver Support Group provides an opportunity for respite while meeting other caregivers in a similar situation to share caregiving experiences and practical tips, learn about dementia, and discover resources in a relaxed and safe environment.

Overall Objectives:

Create a safe space for open discussions about the challenges and emotions involved in caregiving.
Enhance understanding of dementia through Virtual Reality (VR) technology.
Equip caregivers with knowledge and skills to strengthen their resilience in caregiving.
Build a supportive environment for caregivers to share their experiences and develop support networks with fellow caregivers.

Who should attend?

Family members caring for a loved one with a formal diagnosis of dementia;
Able to speak and understand Malay; and

Unsaid is a dance production exploring themes related to life with dementia. It was born out of the need to convey a mental collection of personal and professional stories of those with dementia and their loved ones.

Unsaid explores themes of love and loss, the liminal nature of memory, the search for identity and meaning when one is faced with memory loss, and how the relationship between loved ones changes as a result. The role of memory keeper oscillates constantly till the memories eventually find a new home.

The production seeks to show that despite the changes, confusion, and challenges, love is still present and felt in deep and different ways.

Recommended for audiences aged 16 and above

This programme offers a fresh change of environment to caregivers who may have long been attending support groups held in more formal settings such as dementia day care centres, while encouraging the interaction and bonding between the person living with dementia and family members. Ultimately, it provides an avenue for persons living with dementia and caregivers to have respite and enjoy themselves despite dementia.

The concept of Memories Café was originated from Dr Bere Miesen’s “Alzheimer’s Café” in 1997 in the Netherlands. Dr Miesen’s initiative aims to provide a normalised café setting for persons living with dementia with the following objectives:

To minimise social stigma on persons living with dementia and to encourage social acceptance through the engagements in a café within a community setting.
To provide an alternative platform for social interactions and respite to persons living with dementia and their caregivers, moving away from long-term care environment and their homes.
With organised activities for persons living with dementia and their caregivers, Memories Café aims to improve their interaction and bonding with each other.

The Memories Café programme, modelled after the Alzheimer’s Café, was successfully piloted in early 2014. The responses garnered from the two pilot sessions were overwhelming, which spurred Dementia Singapore to include this programme as part of its regular programme for its beneficiaries. The programme remains very popular and fully enrolled at almost every session.

Caregiver Support and Network aims to promote self-care by providing a platform for caregivers to nurture interests, learn skills, and connect with other caregivers.

What do we do?

Take a moment to slow down and unwind through a guided sound immersion using Tibetan singing bowls and other soothing instruments. Participants will be invited to lie down or rest comfortably while gentle live sounds and vibrations are played throughout the space. The sound immersion lasts approximately 45 minutes.

After the session, participants are warmly invited to stay for a relaxed chat over a cup of hot tea, providing an opportunity to connect, reflect, and ease back into the day.

What do we do?
